A 3-year-old child has been rescued and is now safe following a joint child protection operation involving Project Rescue Children, Cherished Children’s Foundation, the Uganda Police Force, and the District Police Commander (DPC).
This urgent intervention removed the child from a dangerous environment inside a kindergarten, where the very person entrusted with their care—the head teacher—was allegedly concealing harmful intent. The child had been living in boarding accommodation connected to the kindergarten, under the full care of the school head while the child’s single mother was travelling for work.
Disturbing Injuries Raise Serious Concerns
Upon rescue, the child was found with visible injuries, including marks across the body and a cut shaped like an “X” on the head. These injuries are deeply concerning and reports indicate this may not be the first victim linked to the suspect.
While there are indicators that could suggest ritualistic abuse, including possible satanic ritual abuse, this has not been confirmed by Ugandan authorities. Investigations remain ongoing as law enforcement works to establish the full facts and determine the extent of what occurred.
Suspect in Custody as Investigation Expands
The suspect is now in custody, with the Uganda Police Force leading a thorough investigation into the case. Authorities are working to identify any additional victims and uncover the full scope of alleged abuse.
Cases like this highlight a harsh reality: child abuse often occurs in places where children should be safest—schools, care facilities, and environments built on trust.
The Importance of Collaboration in Child Protection
This rescue underscores the critical importance of intelligence-led operations and strong collaboration between NGOs and law enforcement. Without rapid coordination and decisive action, children in these situations remain at extreme risk.
Project Rescue Children continues to work on the frontlines alongside global partners to identify, investigate, and support the rescue of children from exploitation and abuse. Our partnership with Cherished Children’s Foundation and the dedication of the Uganda Police Force were instrumental in bringing this child to safety.
A Reminder to Stay Vigilant
This case is a stark reminder that predators can hide behind positions of authority and trust. Parents, communities, and institutions must remain vigilant, ask questions, and prioritise safeguarding practices that genuinely protect children—not just policies on paper.
Today, one child is safe. But many more remain at risk.
